Metro Society spotlights world-class Pinoys
Metro Society features internationally acclaimed extraordinary artist Ronald Ventura on the cover of its world-class Filipino issue out this month.
Get to know Ronald behind the work as Metro Society gets exclusive access to his home and studio. The contemporary artist shared how he considers the “Human Study” his breakthrough work—a treatise on human survival during dark times. It won the Ateneo Art Award in 2005 and catapulted him into the international circuit, with the award granting him a residency and allowing him to travel, opening up a new visual experience while feeding his creativity.
Read on in the cover story as the sought-after artist opens up about what his upbringing had been like, his influences then and now, his curiosities and fascinations, and what it means to be a world-class Filipino.
Following the cover is a special feature on this year’s ArteFino, a movement nurturing and empowering the Filipino artisan to reach new heights. “Local is the new international” is the focus this year, and as the sought-out craft fair returns on August 30 for four days, Metro Society joins the collective to celebrate another year of celebrating local.
Afterwards, the spotlight is trained on four Pinoys who are truly world-class: theater actress Christina Allado, who has appeared on West End for plays such as Hamilton and In the Heights; Chefs Miko Aspiras and Kristine Lotilla, who continue to produce pastries and desserts that wow as they open their new Workshop Bespoke Bakery at The Grid; Carlo Delantar, the Waves4Water country director who shares his passion of making something as simple and as necessary as clean water accessible in the poorest parts of the world; and Paris-bon vivant Babette Aquino-Benoit who, after 25 beautiful years in the City of Lights, brings her estate and her life back here.
Get inspired by this month’s fashion editorial that highlights iconic local flair by Filipino designers Natalya Lagdameo, John Herrera, Vania Romoff, Francis Libiran, Randy Ortiz, Patty Ang, Ann Ong, Masanting Sasteria, Michael Leyva, and Aranaz.
For style inspiration, get to know Ricardo Preto, creative director of Rustan’s, as he talks about beauty and harmony. Jetting off somewhere and need an outfit? Step inside and splurge at Patty Ang’s boutique for Power Plant Mall.
