GlaxoSmithKline provides vaccine to 1500 relocatees in BayaniJuan
ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI) partners with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in the implementation of a health awareness or education program in BayaniJuan – ABS-CBN Foundation’s resettlement site in Calauan, Laguna which provides opportunities to former estero dwellers through livelihood and skills training, technology transfer, capacity building and health awareness.
The project aims to provide BayaniJuan with access to basic health programs including the provision of health education and immunization to children and adults.
GSK committed a generous donation amounting to thirteen million (13M) pesos worth of vaccines. The vaccines that they will deliver to BayaniJuan on a per dose basis, a day before the scheduled immunization include: human papillomavirus (HPV), rotavirus vaccine and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.
HPV vaccine helps protect females from 9 to 25 years of age against cervical cancer and abnormal and precancerous cervical lesions caused by HPV 16 and 18. Rotavirus vaccine protects young children against mild and severe gastroenteritis that is caused by certain strains of rotavirus. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine helps protect your child against diseases such as: meningitis, blood infection, pneumonia and ear infection caused by ten types of the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Aside from vaccines, GSK will also provide support materials such as patient education materials and/or conduct lay lectures on vaccines and the benefits of immunization during the immunization dates.
AFI, on the other hand , will ensure properly administration to the BNJ beneficiaries composed of children and adults, assist GSK and AFI’s medical practitioners who shall implement the Program and engage its own doctors and nurses and ensure that all vaccination activities shall be supervised and administered by one or more duly licensed medical professionals.
Schedule of vaccination as stated in the Memorandum of Agreement are: July 26, August 2, August 9 and August 23, 2013.
A total of 1,500 beneficiaries, composed of children and adults, will benefit from the vaccination program.
