Back in 1999, then President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada, declared the last week of November as the National Week for the Gifted and Talented under Proclamation No. 199. This intends to give attention to the giftedness of every gifted individual in the Philippines.

To formally open the celebration, Philippine Center for Gifted Education, Inc. in partnership with Programa Genio of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. held a press conference where members of the media, teachers, psychologists, guidance counselors, parents, advocates, and gifted persons attended. The press conference also served as the launch of “Mga Bagong Rizal: Pag-asa ng Bayan 2015.”

The Mga Bagong Rizal is a nationwide search of gifted Filipino youth who have the characteristics of Dr. Jose Rizal, aiming to reach children from the disadvantage sector who might be missing the opportunity to develop their giftedness because of different circumstances.

As ALKFI’s educational arm, Programa Genio aims to bring out the genius in every child. In 2015, the partnership of two organizations will focus on identifying gifted students in public schools and in areas affected by typhoon Yolanda as Programa Genio conducts soft programs to Yolanda survivors and provides Batang Genio scholarships.
