Miss Earth 2014 Candidates Surprise Children of Paco
It takes more than beauty and brains to be a candidate of Miss Earth that one should always have a heart that is willing to help.
As part of its advocacy of promoting humanitarian and environmental causes, Miss Earth Foundation, Inc., had a joint project with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc.’s (ALKFI) Bantay Bata 163 and Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) through a community visit of the 2014 Miss Earth delegates in Paco Market, Manila on Friday, 21 November 2014.
The candidates played with 30 children of Paco, with Bantay Bata facilitating the games that taught children’s rights, and gave out early Christmas gifts. They also had an estero tour along Estero de Paco to see the rehabilitated tributary which is the start of the ALKFI’s work on rehabilitating the Pasig River.
One of the candidates, Patricia Peklar from Slovenia said, “Miss Earth Organization is doing a lot with children, which is important, because children are our future and all the girls, we love to spend time with them. We give children a little bit of friendship, a little bit of play, and I think it’s really important that we spend time with them today.”
With these kinds of activities, it is more than the legacy of beauty which is being continued by Miss Earth. The encounter with the Paco community promotes responsibility towards caring for the earth and children, and it propagates changes as they create an impact in the society in their own ways.
