Sulong Sarangani, Sulong Earth Warrior
ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc. – Bantay Kalikasan, in partnership with the Sulong Sarangani Program of the Provincial Governor’s Office and the Sarangani PNP – SWAT, conducted the Earth Warrior Training in the Sarangani Provincial Complex.
A total of 100 participants from 9 different organizations joined the 3-day training. Lamlifew Tribal Women’s Association; New La Union Water Tubing Adventure and Farmers Association; United Kling Virgin Coconut Oil Producers Cooperative; LUMPAKK Multi-purpose Cooperative; Purok Jolohano Women’s Association; Junior Ecologist Movement of Alabel Regional Science High School; Supreme Student Government of Alabel Regional Science High School; Sulong Kabataan of Provincial Governor’s Office and; PENRO Environmental Youth Club are the organizations who participated in the Earth Warrior Training.
The Earth Warrior Training empowers the Organizations in becoming stewards of the environment. Johanna Jeraldine “Jen” Santos, Program Director of BK, Catleya “Lea” Victoria, Operations Head of BK, Mikhail “Mik” Dizon, Cluster Lead of BK, and Celito “Toto” Terando, Site Specialist of BK, were the Lead Earth Warrior Facilitators. Meanwhile, Imee Senobago, Lizette Lim, Mark Anthony Alonzo, Norehan Usop, Deo Dessaville, Kelvin John Kenjiyo, Nichelle Mosqueda, Joseph Malagante, Mary Jane Macatonao, Jose dela Cruz Jr. and Arlex Narte from Sarangani Provincial Government provided support and assistance during the training.
The Earth Warrior training, through different activities, promotes and instills Leadership, Excellence, Integrity, Accountability, Compassion, Teamwork and Camaraderie in the participants. The 100 participants were eventually divided into 5 groups, represented by 5 colors: Red Warriors, Green Environment, OTOG Yellow, Purple Purplarity and Blue Eagles.The teams started with team cheers, showing their creative sides and team spirit. It was followed by 3 games – Human Tank, Ball Transfer and Pipeline – and a processing of their learning during the activity. Planning, Strategizing and Leadership were tested in the 3 activities. Integrity in the face of pressure and frustrations was highlighted during the sharing session. Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not.
The first day of the training focused on strengthening individuals’ strengths which eventually led to strengthening the organizations. The activities included The Giving Tree which celebrated participants’ uniqueness and their valuable contribution to the organization, followed by Zombie Walk and Infinity Juggle which enhanced their communication skills, accountability and teamwork. The day ended with the turnover of the participants to the Sarangani Philippine National Police – SWAT. They trained the participants in Proper Discipline and following of instructions through Military drills and the square meal.
Day Two of the Earth Warrior Training started with Citizen Journalism Workshop facilitated by ABS-CBN Bayan Mo, Ipatrol Mo Head Rowena Paraan. This workshop encourages people to share information, photos, and videos of events or issues that affect their communities and the nation as a whole. These reports are then verified and endorsed to the concerned government agencies while some are reported on ABS-CBN News platforms. After the Citizen Journalism Workshop, the participants were then asked to break into groups of 8 for the River of Life Sharing. The River of Life gives the opportunity for each participant to open up their lives to their new found comrades. It is an emotionally charged sharing of experiences and life lessons. The day ended with Solidarity Night where teams showcased their talents through their unique interpretation of the theme: Kalikasan: Noon, Ngayon at Bukas”.
On the third and final day, the teams competed in Eco-Amazing Race Challenge – a culmination of all the lessons they learned in the training. The training ended with the Earth Warrior Graduation. Each participant became full – fledged Earth Warriors with a certificate.
The newly knighted Earth Warriors will carry the torch of becoming the Environment Stewards in their respective areas. Bantay Kalikasan moves a step closer in its commitment to declare “Every Filipino, An Earth Warrior”.
