Christmas is about giving and for many, it also symbolizes happiness.

As the Yuletide season drew near, Bantay Kalikasan’s Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (BK-KBPIP) made sure that the kids of Barangay 847 in Pandacan, Manila will be able to celebrate the occasion even in a simple way.

Brgy. 847’s kids enjoyed different games during the event. For Princess Joy Miñano, 9, one of the 50 kids who enjoyed the Christmas party said, “Masaya kasi naglaro, sumayaw.” (We had fun playing and dancing), “Thank you po kasi ang dami nilang binigay,” (Thank you for the things they gave us.) she added.

The event was also participated by the Paco Youth Ensemble, a group of children from Paco who were taught how to play musical instruments with the help of Maja Olivares-Co. The group showcased their talents in playing the flute to the kids of the barangay, hoping they can also find their passion in sharing their talents, whatever they may be, to the community.

The Paco Youth Ensemble also headed a story-telling session to the children. They told the story of “Kalikasan Ating Kalakasan (Nature is our Strength) which revolves around its protagonist Mikay. Mikay is a young girl, same as the age of the kids to whom they were telling the story to, who tried to make a change to save the environment with the help of her family and neighbors in the community.

Catherine Solomon, one of the Paco Youth Ensemble members, wished the kids to be like Mikay. “Sana pinakinggan nila ‘yung kwento namin. Sana gawin din nila ‘yon (ang mga ginawa ni Mikay) para rin sa ating kalikasan,” (We hope they listened to the story and they were able to understand what it was all about. Maybe, they can also be like Mikay who tried to save our environment.) she stated.

Through the initiative of ABS-CBN's Integrated Marketing, 25 River Warriors also received Noche Buena packages from ABS-CBN Employees. Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig became one of their beneficiaries of their Simbang Gabi pledges.

Pandacan, Manila is one of the communities being assisted by BK-KBPIP as it rehabilitated estero de Pandacan with the help of its donors, partners, and volunteers. The estero is maintained with the help of River Warriors who continue to clean it every day. KBPIP also does ecowaste management seminars to the community.
