“Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad,” one of Philippine cinema’s biggest blockbuster hits starring Daniel Padilla, Pia Wurtzbach, and Vice Ganda, brings loads of laughter on Cinema One as the action comedy superhero film premieres this Sunday (June 24).
The hilarious film revolves around rags maker Emy (Vice), who is protective of his only brother, mischievous Chino (Daniel). But when the latter turns 21, his powers are activated and Emy must remember he is “Gandarra,” the greatest superhero there is, to protect his younger sibling. Secrets wedge a distance between the brothers, and Chino becomes a rising superhero—the super speeder “Rappido.”
More twists come their way as an eccentric villainess comes in the picture—Kweenie (Pia) who is hiding as a former beauty queen and model—Cassandra Stockings.
The film’s cast also include Karla Estrada, Ejay Falcon, Loisa Andalio, Justin James Quilantang, Wacky Kiray, Lassy Marquez, MC Calaquian, and RK Bagatsing.
Directed by Joyce Bernal and produced by both Star Cinema and Viva Films, “Gandarappiddo: The Revenger Squad” premiered last December 25 as one of the eight official entries of the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won People’s Choice Award. During the official MMFF run, the film’s total box office gross amounted to P540 million, making it the top grossing film among the festival entries. As of January 17, its gross sales reached P571 million.
