Viewers all over the country watched the story of two brothers growing up in extreme poverty with two loving and hard-working parents in ABS-CBN’s new afternoon series “Sandugo,” which started airing on Monday (September 30).
The pilot episode of “Sandugo” recorded a national TV rating of 18%, or almost seven points higher than its rival program “Dahil sa Pag-ibig’s” 11.1%, according to data from Kantar Media.
The story began with the family of fraternal twins Julius and Aris suffering from the financial weight of Julius’ treatments for his heart condition. Because of this, Aris grows up desiring the approval and attention of their parents Eugene (Ariel Rivera) and Joan (Cherry Pie Picache).
While Aris is envious and ruthlessly ambitious, Julius is principled just like their father, kind, and is always teased for being a weakling because of his illness.
The family starts to crumble when Joan sacrifices her values and gives Aris away to a wealthy couple in exchange for a large amount of money she intends to use to save Julius’ life. This separation is only the beginning of the brother’s (Ejay Falcon and Aljur Abrenica) hostile relationship as they grow up and eventually clash with each other from opposing sides of the law without knowledge of each other’s true identities.
