Hip-hop powerhouse FCPC Baliktanaw from the team division sealed their supremacy on dancing as they were hailed the first-ever “World of Dance Philippines” champion last Sunday (April 7).
The team bested its two co-finalists after garnering a total combined judges’ score and text votes of 99.05%. They took home P2 million and an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles, USA as prizes.
As the competition’s winner, the dance crew will also represent the country in the qualifiers round of “World of Dance USA.” The group became known for its hip-hop dance routines with uniquely Filipino flavor.
Meanwhile, the judges also shared their praises for the team, who were all left in awe with their intense and powerful performances on both rounds of the competition.
“That’s what I call swag. You possess that swag of the Pinoy. Wherever fate takes you, I’ll be so proud. I am proud to be a Pinoy,” said Maja Salavador.
“Us judges do not see the routines of the acts we don’t mentor beforehand. I am impressed with FCPC. I know they’ll do something (impressive). I know they’ll amp it up,” Gary Valenciano added.
“I only have one thing to say: you are exceptional,” said Billy Crawford who was on his feet and even screamed out of excitement.
Upper division’s Luka and Jenalyn secured the 1
st runner up spot as they impressed everyone with their emotional dance routines, which earned them a total combined judges’ score and text votes of 96.38%. On the other hand, junior division’s Ken San Jose, who scored 94.93%, was hailed the 2
nd runner up with his powerful dance performances.
Meanwhile, viewers at home also tuned in to the exciting grand finals as the “World of Dance Philippines” became the most watched program last weekend. Last Saturday (April 6), the show scored a national TV rating of 30.5%, compared to “Daddy’s Gurl” with only 17.7%, according to Kantar Media. It also won last Sunday (April 7) as it hit 34.2%, beating “Studio 7” that only got 15%.
It was also hit among netizens as the show enlisted multiple trending topics on Twitter last weekend. Aside from its official hashtags #WoDphWorLdFinaLs and #WoDphChampion becoming top trending topics, the names of Luka, Jenalyn, and Kenneth San Jose trended on Twitter. Maymay Entrata’s fans also made their presence felt with “Maymay WoDPHFinals” securing a spot in the list.
