“I called on some of my favorite singers from international artists to YouTube stars to homegrown talents and musicians from around the world to come and play Filipino music together—no English translation—using our musical senses and experiences to interpret these songs in its native form,” Filipino-American musical director Troy Laureta said.
Ailee shared her excitement with the opportunity to sing a Filipino song with “Kahit Isang Saglit.” “Never thought I’d be singing in Tagalog but this is for all my Aileeans in the Philippines,” she posted on
Instagram.
Jake, meanwhile, thanked Troy for the chance to do a rendition of “Usahay.” “Daghan salamat nga nahatagan ko og oportunidad nga kantahon kining kantaha. Nanghinaut ako nga nahatagan ko og hustiya (Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to sing this song. I wish I was able to give it justice). Love you kapatid!,” he shared on
Facebook.
Also included in the nine-track OPM collective are Nicole’s version of “Pangako,” Regine’s rendition of “Hanggang Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan” as well as “Bakit Pa” by Cheesa, “Bakit Pa Ba” by Matt, “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” by Sheléa, and “Kailangan Kita” by Pia. The album is produced by Troy in partnership with ABS-CBN Music International.
“KAIBIGAN: A Troy Laureta OPM Collective Vol. 1” is a realization of Troy’s dream to produce an EP with friends he met in his musical journey featuring Filipino songs that have made an impact in his life.
He dedicates the album to his Filipino parents. “November 22 is my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary. I wanted this to be a gift for them.”
