ABS-CBN’s documentaries about inspiring Filipinos and societal issues reaped seven awards at the prestigious U.S. International Film & Video Festival this year.

The documentaries that won Silver Screen awards were Mga Kwento ng Klima, Genuine Love, Radical Love, Alab, and Local Legends: Glass Sculptor.

Two more documentaries won third place to merit certificates -- Local Legends: Glass Sculptor and Ang Babae ng Balangiga (The Woman of Balangiga).

All documentaries were produced by ABS-CBN DocuCentral, a production unit of ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs.

Mga Kwento ng Klima, a co-production with the Oscar M. Lopez Center, told stories of survivors of climate-related disasters such as Typhoons Ondoy and Yolanda, and shared efforts by experts and communities in addressing the climate crisis.

Genuine Love shared the journey in public service of Gina Lopez, the former head of ABS-CBN Foundation.

Radical Love, meanwhile, chronicled actress Cherry Pie Picache’s inner struggles as she makes the decision to forgive her mother’s murderer.

Alab, which aired during the Philippines’ Fire Prevention month, imparted valuable lessons to viewers about the sacrifices and courage of volunteer firefighters.

Glass Sculptor, on the other hand, followed the creative process of Filipino artist Ramon Orlina as he makes unique art pieces that are treasured by museums and collectors.

Another great Filipino was featured in “Ang Babae ng Balangiga.” Through this piece from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News finally put a face to the name Casiana Nacionales, a Visayan heroine who played a pivotal role in the Balangiga encounter in 1901.

The US International Film & Video Festival has been acknowledging creative excellence in film and video productions for over 50 years. It aims to recognize “quality work produced for industry, associations, government, religious or education organizations whose purpose is to inform, motivate, stimulate or educate an audience.”
