ABS-CBN International’s Head of News Production, Troy Espera, was recently named to the Board of Governors of the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

NATAS recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy® Award.

As a Board of Governors member, Espera will be working on the Membership and Education committees. This is in line with his personal brand mission as an advocate for ethnic media. Espera shares that, “My goal on this board is to carve out more space for other ethnic media outlets in NATAS and to promote ethnic media careers to students.”

Immediate past NATAS President Steve Shlisky shared that he has been wanting to build a more diverse board, looking for representation from content producers within the regions of Northern California, Hawaii, Reno, Nevada, and Guam.

Shlisky said he “asked Troy to explore serving on our Board of Governors because I felt our Chapter would benefit from his unique experience.”

Espera acknowledges the hard work of the content creators behind TFC’s Emmy wins. “The recognition we've received from NATAS over the years has not only inspired us to pursue excellence in our craft, but it has also raised our visibility in the industry by highlighting truly compelling stories from the Filipino community.”

Espera also mentions, “It's time that TFC, a consistent award-winning station in the market, should have representation on the NATAS Board of Governors.”

Randy Forsman, current president of NATAS San Francisco/Northern California Chapter looks forward to working with representatives from the broad cross section of the people and cultures that make up the region.

According to Forsman, “With so many new and talented governors on the board such as Troy Espera, it is my aim that the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences be more inclusive and welcoming of new ideas. This will help our members feel engaged and more connected to our industry as a whole."

The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was chartered in 1961.  It is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational, and technical achievements within the television industry.
