"PBB Kumunity" highlights importance of mental health

November 23, 2021 AT 07 : 15 PM

The public has a better understanding on the importance of mental health as “PBB Kumunity Season 10” Celebrity Edition continues to shed light on the struggles of housemates like Albie Casino, Alexa Ilacad, and KD Estrada.

With the help of resident “PBB Kumunity” psychologist-psychiatrist Dr. Randy Dellosa, celebrity housemates and the public have a better grasp of various conditions that affect mental health like anxiety, ADHD, and body dysmorphia and how people can deal with it.

According to Dr. Dellosa, his initial diagnosis for Alexa is body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), which is based on Alexa’s revelation that she has a growing insecurity about her body because of comments she gets about her weight.

“Kailangan natin maintindihan, naiiba yung normal insecurities. Sa normal insecurities natin, naba-bother tayo but we can let it go. Whereas sa BDD, dun sila obsessed, dun sila nagpo-focus,” Dr. Dellosa explained.

Understanding is also important when reaching out to people with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) like Albie.

“Dapat malawak ang pag-unawa sa taong may ADHD. Kasi kahit i-advise sila, they will forget. Just be patient in reminding the person kung ano ang dapat niyang gawin, If you meet fire with fire, siyempre wala iyong papupuntahan. The best time to talk with that person about ‘yung mga behavior, is kung pag kalmado na siya,” he said.

The public needs to open their minds and be more compassionate as well when it comes to dealing with people who have anxiety like KD. Netizens on Twitter also praised “PBB Kumunity” for deepening the dialogue on mental health.

Twitter user @oohnouella posted, “This PBB’s season is really doing something to normalize conversations [about] mental health and raise awareness to certain mental health problems. I hope the outside world is learning.”

Meanwhile, Chie Filomeno, the “Calendar Vixen of Antipolo,” got evicted over the weekend after getting 11.16% of combined Kumu and text votes. Her co-nominees, KD (17.35%), Benedix Ramos (16.83%), and Eian Rances (12.12%) were saved from eviction.

This week, Kapamilya stars Alexa, Anji Salvacion, and Kyle Echarri are up for eviction after getting the most nominations for the fourth eviction night this Saturday (November 27). To vote via SMS, text BBS <name of housemate> or BBE <name of housemate> and send it to 2366.
