Kabayan visits the “Egg Basket Capital of the Philippines” this Sunday
Who would have thought pests could turn into cash?
Noli de Castro tries catching rats in Pampanga farmlands this Sunday (November 13) in “KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan.”
Because of the rat infestation on rice fields, which greatly affects the livelihood of the farmers, the local government unit of a Pampanga town launched the “Ang Wanted: Mr. Rat” program. It aims to eliminate these pests by making locals catch rats in exchange for money.
The KBYN team also features two siblings who turn used tires into household decorations. With only 200 to 300 pesos as their capital, Allen and Dyan Olfindo from Antipolo City source their materials from vulcanizing shops, create beautiful hanging pots with it, and sell it through their Facebook page “GO-Gulong Craft and Arts Project.”
Meanwhile, Kabayan visits San Jose, Batangas, known as the “Egg Basket Capital of the Philippines,” and meets the first-ever ‘magmamanok’ Glicerio Lagaya. The 95-year-old shares stories on how the egg business grew and flourished in their town. From a simple egg, they also developed egg liquid and egg powder for those people who are always on the go.
