ABS-CBN’s “Red Alert” turns five
ABS-CBN’s award-winning current affairs program “Red Alert” will look into the state of emergency and rescue in the country every Wednesday this March as it celebrates five years of advocating emergency-preparedness among Filipinos.
Anchor Jeff Canoy gives us a closer look at the daily grind of the men and women in the forefront of rescuing and saving lives such as a firefighter, emergency responder, E.R. doctor, and a barrio midwife in the month-long special of “Red Alert,” which airs 9:30 pm on DZMM TeleRadyo and after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
This Wednesday (March 13), Jeff meets emergency responder Arkie Castisimo, who together with volunteers, responds to different emergencies in the five barangays at Commonwealth, Quezon City.
His job of ten years is not easy, as every second counts to save a person’s life. At times, due to lack of equipment and resources, they even put their own lives at risk. Jeff finds out why Arkie continues to show up every night despite the danger and his profession’s low salary.
“Red Alert,” which first aired in ABS-CBN in March 2014, aims to inform and educate Filipinos on how to prevent and deal with life-threatening situations brought about by crime, accidents, and natural disasters so that they can protect themselves and their families. Jeff, a multiawarded journalist and documentarist, took over as anchor of the program in 2017.
