ABS-CBN News celebrates the humanity, culture, and collective consciousness of Filipinos by featuring stories of people facing and overcoming adversities in the new documentary series “#NoFilter.”

Every Wednesday on ABS-CBN, the Kapamilya network’s trusted journalists offer viewers a raw and intimate look at the experiences of various Filipinos—from famous personalities to unsung heroes found in “ordinary” people, utilizing in-depth interviews and personal footage to delve deeper into their stories of hardships and triumphs.

On "#NOFILTER's" second episode on May 8 (Wednesday), reporter Raphael Bosano tells the intertwined stories of Narlyn Bayani, a member of the Mangyan tribe in Occidental Mindoro, and Laurens Joldanero, a midwife and a barangay health worker who who treks for eight to 12 hours every week so that Narlyn and her community can receive basic health care.

Narlyn is a mother of six who lives in the geographically isolated mountainous region of Occidental Mindoro. The area is hard to reach, with various environmental and safety hazards along the way. With the help of Laurens, a widow with three children and a Dangal ng Bayan awardee, Narlyn now has regular access to contraceptives, immunizations for her children, and other health services.

According to Raphael, who covers the health beat for ABS-CBN News, the plight of communities in far-flung and disadvantaged areas must be brought to light and acted upon, same as those of the health workers that serve them with limited resources and manpower.

“A lot of people are unaware of the struggles of both the community members and the barangay health workers who strive hard to make ends meet,” said Raphael. “I hope to give viewers a glimpse of the journey the health workers have to endure, sometimes even on a daily basis, just so they can give these communities the health services they deserve.”

While Raphael is able to shed light on their concerns through news reports, “#NOFILTER” enables him to show more extensively the stories of people like Narlyn and Laurens, who get to discuss freely their present condition and the extent of the problem to him.

In the first episode of “#NOFILTER,” people got a more in-depth look at the struggles of a person suffering from mental illness in award-winning documentarist Jeff Canoy’s feature on the famous singer and songwriter Ebe Dancel. The former front man for the iconic band “Sugarfree” detailed his lowest points that coincided with the height of his career, and highlighted the importance of talking about mental health to lessen its stigma and potentially save lives.

In the following weeks, “#NoFilter” will also feature stories told by other journalists from ABS-CBN News like Abner Mercado, Chiara Zambrano, and Kori Quintos.

Catch #NOFILTER stories every Wednesday, 9:30 pm on DZMM TeleRadyo and on ABS-CBN after “Bandila.” Follow the show in social media via @NoFilterabscbn on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. For updates, follow @abscbnpr on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram or go to abscbnpr.com.
