The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) wrapped up its first conference this 2019 like only it can do --- delivering elite volleyball action that’s talked about all over the country and heard all over the world as it was shown LIVE on S+A, LIGA, and iWant.

As expected, PVL-related topics trended on Twitter, occupying 12 slots in the Top 20 for the Philippines, with the league’s official hashtag #PVL2019 in the top spot, followed by #PVLReinforcedConference2019. #PVL2019 also ranked fourth among trending topics worldwide.

Among the most tweeted topics on Sunday (July 15) were the teams fighting for the championship, Creamline and Petrogazz, which both delivered inspiring performances in four thrilling sets. The latter eventually won the showdown (25-15, 28-30, 25-23, 25-19) and dethroned the defending champion to win its first ever PVL title.

Netizens also raved about their imports notably the Cool Smashers’ relentless (Kuttika) Kaewpin, and the Angels’ power duo of (Wilma) Salas and (Janisa) Johnson, the conference’s Best Foreign Guest Player and Finals MVP, respectively. Kaewpin had another all-around game with 17 attacks and 11 digs, while Salas and Johnson were simply unstoppable with a combined 53 points, while also anchoring the Angels’ defense.

Not to be outdone, local players also made it to the trending list, led by three-time PVL MVP (Alyssa) Valdez, who stuffed the stat sheet with 18 attacks, 3 blocks, and an ace, and her teammate (Risa) Sato, who was equally effective at the net and from the service line during the match to contribute 10 points.
Since its debut in 2017, the PVL has consistently trended on social media during game day and peaks during important matches when it is able to dominate the trending list for the country, and even penetrate the Worldwide Trends. It also has some of the most organized and passionate supporters, who always show up in the games complete with matching shirts, drums, balloons, posters, and streamers to cheer for their favorite teams and players.

In fact, while thousands watched the Reinforced Conference’s finale from their homes and through their gadgets, many others braved the rains and trooped to Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City to witness the do-or-die matches featuring Creamline, PetroGazz, BanKo Perlas Lady Spikers, and PacificTown Army Lady Troopers. Almost 6,000 fans packed the venue, which was filled with energy from start until the end as supporters traded cheers and danced to the DJs’ music during the breaks.

With another triumphant conference already in the books, the PVL is now gearing up for its second tournament this season, the PVL Open Conference, which will begin in August and will feature the new team, Choco Mucho. Bannered by fan-favorites Bea De Leon, Maddie Madayag, and Kat Tolentino from UAAP Season 81 champion Ateneo Lady Eagles, there is no doubt that volleyball aficionados will once again fill up the venues and make PVL trend again online.
