The country’s highest grossing film, “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” led the winners as Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards were named Phenomenal Stars of Philippine Cinema, as well as Film Actress and Film Actor of the Year. The movie’s director, Cathy Garcia-Molina, was honored as Most Popular Film Director and shared the Most Popular Screenwriter award with Carmi Raymundo and Rona Go for their work in the box office hit. ABS-CBN Film Productions also clinched the award for Most Popular Film Producer.
The team-up of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil were also recognized as they won the award for Most Popular Loveteam for Movies and Prince and Princess of Philippine Movies for Black Sheep’s “Alone/Together.”
In the TV category, ABS-CBN programs and stars also raked in recognition. Coco Martin and Angel Locsin were hailed as TV Actor and Actress of the Year (Primetime Drama), while JM de Guzman and Dimples Romana bagged the same award in the Daytime Drama category. Joshua Garcia and Janella Salvador’s work in “The Killer Bride” also earned them the awards for Prince and Princess of Philippine Television.
Veteran actor Tirso Cruz III garnered the award for TV Supporting Actor of the Year for his performance in “The General’s Daughter,” while Yassi Pressman’s role as Alyanna opposite Coco Martin’s Cardo Dalisay in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” won her the award for TV Supporting Actress of the Year. Other veterans that grabbed awards were Christopher de Leon (All-Time Favorite Actor for “Love Thy Woman”) and Lorna Tolentino (All-Time Favorite Actress for “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano”).
Meanwhile, the Gold Squad showed they lived up to the definition of squad goals as they were all recognized at the ceremony. Andrea Brillantes and Seth Fedelin were hailed Most Promising Loveteam, while Francine Diaz and Kyle Echarri were named Most Promising Female and Male Star for Television. Child star Sophie Reola’s debut as a drama star in “Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit” also paid off as she was named Most Popular Female Child Performer.
The cast of “The General’s Daughter” also led the winners of Kapamilya programs as it scored the award for Best Acting Ensemble in a Drama Series. Other honorees include “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” (Popular TV Program-Primetime Drama), “Kadenang Ginto” (Popular TV Program-Daytime Drama), “Magandang Buhay” (Popular TV Program-Talent Search/Reality/Talk/Game Show), and “ASAP” (Popular TV Program-Musical Variety/Noontime/Primetime).
In the world of music, ABS-CBN artists also got special nods, including Lea Salonga (Female Concert Performer of the Year), Martin Nievera (Male Concert Performer of the Year), Gary Valenciano (Male Recording Artist of the Year), Regine Velasquez-Alcasid (Female Recording Artist of the Year), Maris Racal (Promising Female Recording Artist of the Year), and Kiana Valenciano (New Female Concert Performer of the Year).
Concerts produced by ABS-CBN for the following artists were also recognized like Ian Veneracion (New Male Concert Performer of the Year) and Aegies (Group Concert Performer the Year).
Finally, sisters Toni and Alex Gonzaga also joined the winners’ circle as they were named Female TV Host of the Year and Popular Female Influencer of the Year, respectively.
The prestigious Guillermo Mendoza Box Office Awards is an awarding ceremony honoring the actors, actresses, showbiz personalities, movies, and TV programs in the Philippines.
