ABS-CBN’s TeleRadyo led the Kapamilya winners including John Arcilla, Dimples Romana, Luis Manzano, and Ogie Alcasid at the 6th GEMS Awards held by the Guild of Educators, Mentors, and Students (GEMS).
“On the Spot” anchor Tony Velasquez accepted the Natatanging Hiyas ng Sining sa Radyo given to TeleRadyo, which continues to serve Filipinos on cable and digital despite going off air on radio in 2020.
“We are grateful for the trust we continue to receive despite the challenges our station faced in the past two years. We vow to continue our mission for over three decades, which is to serve the Filipino by being first in news and first in public service,” said Tony.
Veteran actor and “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” mainstay John Arcilla accepted the Natatanging Hiyas ng Sining sa Pelikula (Highest Honors for Film) trophy for his outstanding work and contributions to Philippine cinema. The film “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon,” headlined by Charo Santos and Daniel Padilla, was also given the Natatanging Pelikulang Pangkalinangang Pilipino award.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN shows “ASAP Natin ‘To” and “Viral Scandal” were also big winners in the awarding ceremony that was streamed online recently. The country’s longest-running multi-awarded musical variety show was named Best TV Program (Entertainment/Variety) while the hit teleserye was chosen as Best TV Series. “Viral Scandal” actress Dimples Romana even took home the award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role (Male or Female – TV Series) for her work in the show.
Members of GEMS also recognized the excellent hosting of Luis Manzano in “I Can See Your Voice” and Ogie Alcasid in “It’s Showtime” by awarding them Best TV Program Host (Reality/Talent Search) and Best TV Program Host (Entertainment/Variety), respectively.
Other notable Kapamilyas that won awards from GEMS this year include Star Magic artist Paolo Gumabao (Espesyal na Gawad sa Kapuri-puring Pagganap for “Lockdown”), comedian and talent manager Ogie Diaz (Best Digital Program for “The Ogie Diaz YouTube Channel”), and Megastar Sharon Cuneta (Best Performance in a Lead Role (Female) in a Film for "Revirginized").
GEMS – Hiyas ng Sining is an organization that aims to recognize outstanding individuals and works in the fields of print, digital, stage, radio, television, and film.
