Tarsier Records’ newest artist
Musician-painter Pupa Dadivas revels in conflicted feelings about her dreams in her debut single “DPTA.”
“It’s a curse word in Ilonggo/Hiligaynon. It naturally slips out of my mouth when I feel frustrated,” explained the new Tarsier Records artist.
Püpa shared that she blended Filipino, English, and Ilonggo words to depict her frustration with taking risks and moving forward while also wanting to stay grounded and in her comfort zone.
“I wrote it when I was torn between chasing my dreams and my longing for home. My frustration is a constant push and pull. Some days, it overshadows my whole being and mapapa-’DPTA’ ka na lang talaga,” she added.
The track was composed by Püpa and produced by Ken Ponce.
Raised in Roxas City, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter combines traditional pop and Asian pop in her music and also delves into indie and alternative genres. Püpa has previously released the songs “Dead Flower,” “Dumbfounded,” “Make Me,” and “heels.”
“I see creativity as a way to express emotions I can't say out loud. My work is just a fusion of my experiences, whether through painting, acting, or music. I try to create pieces that resonate with my current feeling. I believe that sadness, frustrations, and the like can turn into art,” she shared.
Aside from music, Püpa is also an actress who starred in the Ilonggo film “Candè” along with JC Santos. She competed in the Miss Universe Philippines in 2022 and a reality singing competition on TV in 2023.
