Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu became a center for love when ABS-CBN’s “Kapamilya Love Weekend” paid the community a visit recently, delivering a fiesta of services to more than 2,000 people.

The network’s public service caravan, which is done in celebration of ABS-CBN’s 65th anniversary, offered more than the usual medical and dental mission as they also provided for free optical and laboratory services and x-rays, haircut and massage, a soup kitchen, legal consultation, a one-stop shop for government services like SSS and LTO, and even cellphone and laptop repairs that brought relief and smiles to kapamilyas.

Residents also took home business ideas from the livelihood seminar, pet owners availed of veterinary services, bookworms enjoyed the pre-loved books bazaar, while hundreds of kids also went home with free books from the “Libro para sa Kapamilya" program of ABS-CBN Regional.

There was also a zumba party, karaoke challenge, and games with former “Pinoy Big Brother Otso” housemates Argel, Gino, Yen, and Ashley, with ABS-CBN employees, reporters, jocks, and staff, who served as volunteers.

For the leg in Cebu, ABS-CBN Regional put its unique spin on the “Kapamilya Love Weekend” by going beyond the usual medical mission, and following the format of its bi-annual grand public service event “Halad sa Kapamilya,” where people are encourage to offer any kind of service to others.

"Halad" means “offering” in Cebuano, and this is exactly what was witnessed in the “Kapamilya Love Weekend” in Cebu.

"It is really not about us... we are just the bridge to those who want to help and those who need it. This is our venue for giving and giving back,” said ABS-CBN Regional head Veneranda Cinco - Sy, who used to be ABS-CBN Cebu’s station manager.

The people of Barangay Basak, meanwhile, were all smiles and full of gratitude after receiving love and services from theirkapamilyas in ABS-CBN.

"Nalipay ko kay naa may manghatag... bisan gamay, modako naman siya tungod sa kalipay nako kaayo, (I am happy because somebody has given... even in small quantity, it becomes big because of the happiness I feel inside), said elderly Maria Ando, who had her eyes checked up.

“Kapamilya Love Weekend” is just one of the many public service activities launched and are being conducted by the company in its more than six decades of being in the service of the Filipino. It will continue to go to different barangays in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao this year as part of ABS-CBN’s anniversary celebration.
