“Fan Girl” continues its winning streak as 2020’s Best Film while its director Antoinette Jadaone took home the Best Director and Best Screenplay trophies. The movie’s lead stars Paulo Avelino and Charlie Dizon also won Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
In her acceptance speeches, Antoinette paid tribute to the entire team behind “Fan Girl” and also shared the film’s victory with fellow nominees and other Filipino movies that came out in 2020.
“Isang tagumpay ito para sa atin dahil hindi natin hinayaang mamatay ang naghihingalo nating industriya sa gitna ng pandemiya.” (This is all our victory because we did not allow our struggling industry to die in the middle of a pandemic.)
(The people behind Fan Girl hope that the Philippines that we will leave to our youth, just like Jane in Fan Girl, knows about respect for women and human rights.)
“Fan Girl’s” breakout star, meanwhile, dedicated her win to her family and supporters, and gave thanks to those who continue to believe in her talent.
“Thank you po sa Eddys Awards at sa lahat po ng bumubuo ng Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors. Of course, maraming salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta sa Fan Girl and sa lahat ng bumubuo ng team Fan Girl lalong lalo na kay Direk Antoinette Jadaone, thank you po. Gusto ko rin pong mag thank you sa management ko sa Star Magic family, sa Rise Artists Studio family, and sa buong ABS-CBN Films, and sa lahat po ng bumubuo sa ABS-CBN management,” Charlie said.
A collaboration between ABS-CBN Films' Black Sheep, Globe Studios, Project 8, Epicmedia, and Crossword Productions, “Fan Girl” also ruled the Best Sound (Vincent Villa) and Best Editing (Benjamin Tolentino) categories.
Black Sheep was recognized too as this year’s Rising Producers Circle awardee for its determination to make a difference through its groundbreaking films.
“It really is an honor and it warms our hearts po that there is an institution na kumikilala po sa mga producers like us who really want to break new grounds in Philippine cinema,” said Black Sheep head Kriz Gazmen, who shared the award with all directors, writers, producers, staff, and crew behind the films they have produced.
Star Magic artist Shaina Magdayao also won Best Supporting Actress for the film “Tagpuan.” Meanwhile, “Iba ‘Yan” host Angel Locsin and Kim Chiu of “It’s Showtime” and “ASAP Natin ‘To” were recipients of the Isah V. Red award, which was given in honor of the late founding president of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), the group behind the Eddys.
Together with other distinguished awardees, the two were honored for their compassion and generosity especially in helping our countrymen in the fight against COVID-19.
Last Sunday’s awarding, which was hosted by Robi Domingo, was the first digital staging of the Eddys, which honors and recognizes outstanding members of the film and entertainment industry.
